Post-coital bleeding

There are many causes for bleeding after intercourse, such as:

  • An infection

  • Damage to the vagina such as tears after childbirth

  • Damage to the vagina from dryness or friction during intercourse

  • Cervical polyps

  • Endometrial polyps

  • Cervical ectropian, when cells from inside the cervix grow on the outside of the cervix

Post-coital bleeding can also be a sign of cervical or vaginal cancer.

It is best to see a Gynaecologist Consultant to treat the cause of the symptoms and rule out anything serious.
