Pelvic inflammatory disease

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes.

  • Pain around the pelvis or lower tummy

  • Pain during sex

  • Bleeding after sex

  • Pain when urinating

  • Bleeding between periods

  • Period problems

  • Unusual vaginal discharge

As the infection is usually caused by bacteria, pelvic inflammatory disease can be treated with antibiotics. PID can become serious if left untreated and cause damage to your fallopian tubes and affect your fertility.
